danko jones

Please take a moment to introduce yourself

I’m Danko Jones and I play guitar and sing in an eponymous rock band.

How large is your living space and how many people are you sharing it with?

My place is 900 square feet (90 square metres) and I share it with someone else.

Which cities/countries have you lived in?

Just Toronto, Canada but I did spend a helluva lot of time in Stockholm a few years ago.

Do your surroundings play a role inside a home? How does your city quarter influence your lifestyle?

I live in the section of the city that is called mid-town. It’s not as sterile as the suburbs and it’s not as dense and frantic as the downtown core. I like the balance. There are great restaurants and boutique stores alongside your basic grocery and pharmacy needs. This in turn has an effect on how I live my life which is rather quiet. The last thing I need after a long ass hard rocking tour is more of the same. A lot of stillness mixed with a little friction always does the trick.

What jobs have you had?

My last day job I had was a decade ago working in a warehouse. I’ve worked at record stores, restaurants, a radio station, and a porno store. Over the years the one requisite a job needed to have for me was flexibility due to constant touring, and when I was in school - exams. I hate working within the service industry and retail is soul sucking but it’s flexible and pliable to a guy-in-a-band’s needs.

Are you good at making things? Are you a handyman?

I suck but I have money to pay someone who doesn’t.

What do you cook for your best friends? What’s on the plate when you’re short on time?

That’s what take out menus are for.

Are suprise visits ok?

Fuck no. If anyone does there’s a swift kick in the ass waiting for them. I cherish my private time.

Do you ask guests to take off their shoes?

Absolutely. I am what some people call a neat freak. It is definitely true, you eventually turn into your parents and I’m watching myself turn into my Dad.

How would you describe your decorating style?

danko jones

I am not allowed to decorate the place or else there would be posters of The Melvins and Kiss Dolls lining the walls. I’ve been given 1/4 of a wall by a certain someone to hang whatever need be: autographed records, pictures, Kiss dolls etc. It sucks but what are you gonna do?

Aside from your bed, what’s your favorite spot at home?

My table with my laptop on it.

Which spot do you prefer not to show, and why?

Not that I prefer not to show it but the kitchen sink, fridge, toilet, bathtub, closet - these things are rather boring wouldn’t you say?

What’s your favorite piece of furniture at home?

I would probably say my record collection. It’s actually been scaled down and over the last 3 years I’ve gotten rid of about 400 records so it’s not as big as it used to be but it’s still a bitch to move. Even though I mainly listen to my ipod now, because I’m always on tour, it’s still loaded with memories and albums that have marked my life.

Tell us about your latest unnecessary purchase

Weird question. After food and clothing, what is considered an unnecessary purchase is moot. What is necessary to me might be considered ridiculous to others. I recently purchased a Bobby Grossman photographic print of David Johansen I saw in a gallery in L.A. two years ago. If you’re a NY Dolls fan it’s almost a mandatory purchase. If you enjoy golf and crocheting then it’s an unnecessary purchase. The same goes for my limited edition Leonard Cohen print.

So, what’s definitely still missig within your walls?

More space. There’s more stuff here than this place can hold and it’s starting to get out of hand. The funny thing is I have an appointment to see another place today with more space!

What question have always wanted to be asked? How would you answer it?

How did it feel after you heard your album when ten times platinum? I would say that it felt fucking great.

or

You recently ended a torrid love affair with Natalie Portman. How was it? I would say that it felt fucking great.

Den Song “My Time Is Now” gibt es vorab als Gratisdownload.

Und zuletzt: Ist es für euch ok, dass die Beiträge hier auf englisch erscheinen? Sollte es eine Übersetzung geben?
